Environment

Reesby Rotorua EnvironmentTo ensure our environment is protected for future generations Reesby Rotorua accepts responsibility for the harmful effect vehicle emissions have on both the local and global environment and is committed to reducing them.

Over a distance of 10 / 12 km a bus releases 1kg of CO2. By comparison a car discharges the same amount over half the distance.

30 passengers using the bus (instead of a car) over a 6 km distance will reduce CO2 emissions by 60kg.

Company policy dictates

  • Vehicles operate with ad blue additive.
  • Tree planting to offset the CO2 emissions.
  • Compliance with all relevant environmental legislation.
  • Recycling facilities are used when and where they are available.
  • An environmentally approved bus wash.
  • Rainwater is collection for bus wash.
  • Reesby Rotorua commitment to the environment is to operate a fleet of Enhanced Environmentally friendly vehicles (EEV).
  • The short term aim is a fleet minimum standard of Euro 4.

Reesby Rotorua is committed to providing an environmentally sustainable urban transport system that is valued by the community.

It is predicted that catastrophic change will occur when the concentration of CO2 in the air reaches 450parts per million (ppm).

The current level is 380ppm increasing annually by 2 – 3 ppm.

In August 2010 Reesby Rotorua was awarded the Qualmark silver environment award -the first New Zealand urban bus service to receive silver accreditation.
